Sounds Of the Colour City (Assessment 2)

My audio piece titled “Sounds of the Colour City” was heavily inspired by two main pieces: Space Replay by Francesco Tacchini and the Frugal Forrest exhibition  at the Wollongong Art Gallery. With this piece, I wanted to create ambience and space, to allow the audience to feel as though they are in the places and going through the motions I am depicting through the use of sound alone.

As inspired by Frugal Forrest I have used only authentic and environmental sounds in my piece rather than voice or music to naturally create the ambience of the environment. The use of familiar sounds such as cars going over a speed bump, chatter in a café and various nature sounds allows the listener to relate to the noises and connect with the idea of “where I’m from” in their own context, on a personal level.
