When virtual reality is the best thing to ever happen to yo lazy anti-social ass
If you’re anything like introverted little old me, then you’d think the idea of experiencing the world without having to leave the comfort of your own home is just not going to happen. Well actually, with increasing technologies and the invention of virtual reality, its been made more achievable than the world could have ever thought (woohoo!)
In 1938 Charles Wheatstone invented the Stereoscope, a little device (similar to the one you used to be able to get in happy meals years ago) that shows you two side by side stereoscopic images which gave a sense of depth and immersion, almost (but not quite) as much as there would be if you were really there.
Jump forward about 70 years and the whole idea of virtual reality has become a lot more of a ‘real-world’ reality than we could have ever imagined. Now you can experience virtual reality when you’re out and about using the Google Cardboard or jump on in to your favourite video games using the Oculus Rift.
Who knows, with the way technology is advancing maybe soon there’ll be fully functional virtual worlds that allow you to touch taste and smell virtual things!
